01Philosophy

Most people don't arrive with a mood board. They arrive stuck.

Halfway through a renovation, holding three quotes that don't agree, unsure what to decide first or whose advice to take. That is the point at which most clients call.

Sentient Space was built for that moment. The work itself is coastal and calm, natural materials and quiet palettes, rooms that hold the light. But the thing clients tend to remember is simpler: somebody competent finally took the whole thing off their hands.

Natural stone, warm oak, limewash, brass left to age honestly. Restraint over decoration. These images set the direction we work in. Photography of current projects is added as each one completes.

Four Ways
We Work

01

Interior
DesignConcept to completion

A considered, collaborative process that turns a vague sense of how you want to live into drawings a builder can actually price and follow. The decisions get made here, so the build isn't where you make them.

CoversConcepts and mood boards · Space planning · Materials and finishes · Custom joinery · Lighting and electrical · Documentation for trades · Final styling

02

Project
ManagementOne point of contact

Your renovation or new build, run properly. You get one number to call, a programme that reflects reality, and a straight answer when something on site goes sideways.

CoversBuilder tender and selection · DA and CDC approvals · Programme and trade sequencing · Budget and variations · Site meetings · Defects and handover

03

Pre-Sale
RenovationSpend where it returns

Targeted work before you go to market, aimed at the return rather than the wish list. We assess what buyers in your pocket of the beaches will genuinely pay more for, then stop there.

CoversValue strategy · Cosmetic upgrade plan · Cost-effective selections · Trade coordination · Decluttering and flow · Styling for the campaign

04The Blueprint

How A
Project Runs

Floor plans, a brass ruler, notebooks and material samples laid out on a desk

01

Discovery & Strategy

What you are actually trying to achieve, what it is realistically likely to cost, and whether it stacks up structurally and against council. Before anyone spends money on it.

02

Design Development

Concepts, layouts, materials and joinery resolved into one coherent direction, with the trade-offs made deliberately rather than discovered halfway through.

03

Documentation & Procurement

Drawings, schedules and specifications a builder can price accurately. Approvals lodged, tenders compared, ordering planned around real lead times rather than optimism.

04

Construction & Delivery

Trades coordinated, site meetings run, budget and variations tracked, problems handled as they surface. Then defects, finishing touches and handover.

Sally Darkes, founder

Sally is the driving force behind Sentient Space, bringing more than 25 years in luxury residential and commercial design to every project. As both an Interior Architect and a qualified Construction Project Manager, she sits on both sides of the job, the creative direction and the technical delivery. That combination is rarer than it sounds, and it is usually the reason clients call.

Based on the Northern Beaches, her work is coastal in the honest sense: light, natural and timeless, paired with a clear read on what genuinely adds property value. She works closely with trusted builders, trades and agents to turn homes into spaces that are better to live in and stronger on the market.

Her hallmark is plain communication and meticulous project management, which makes the process considerably less stressful for clients and builders alike.
